They are groynes at Blue Anchor Bay - a kind of sea defence or breakwaters which have fallen into disrepair (which makes me sound very knowledgeable until I confess that I didn't know until an FB friends told me:) - my theory was that they were for impaling the heads of your enemies - I kind of liked that one ;)
